Each year during its annual awards banquet, Friends of the Dallas Police honors police officers and non-sworn employees who have been recognized by the Dallas Police Department in the past year for their strong leadership, courage and exceptional service including Field Training Officer of the Year, Joe C. Jones Reserve Officer of the Year, Marvin R. Bullard Supervisor Non-Sworn Employee and Officer of the Year and Johnny Sides Rookie of the Year.
This year the banquet honored two fallen Dallas Police Officers with The Police Cross, Police Officer Rogelio Santander Jr. and Senior Corporal Earl “Jamie” Givens III, who passed away earlier this year while heroically performing in the line of duty.
Friends of the Dallas Police also honors top division non-sworn employee and officer of the year award recipients chosen by the Dallas Police Department in the following areas: Office of the Chief of Police Non-Sworn Employee and Officer of the Year, Administrative Non-Sworn Employee and Officer of the Year, Communications Non-Sworn Employee of the Year, Community Outreach Non-Sworn Employee and Officer of the Year, In-Field Support Non-Sworn Employee of the Year, Operations Non-Sworn Employee of the Year, Support Non-Sworn Employee of the Year, Central Patrol Bureau Officer of the Year, West Patrol Bureau Officer of the Year, East Patrol Bureau Officer of the Year and South Patrol Bureau Officer of the Year
The highest honors given during the awards banquet are the Departmental James Taylor Non-Sworn Employee of the Year selected from the non-sworn top division employee winners and the Joe T. McCarthy Officer of the Year selected from the officer of the year top division winners.
At the 2018 Friends of the Dallas Police Awards Banquet, 115 police officers and non-sworn employees were honored for their strong leadership, courage and exceptional service demonstrated throughout the past year. Also this year, two units were recognized with the Meritorious Conduct Unit Ward, Office of Community Affairs and the NCIC unit.
